THE CHRONICLES OF STONE AND MELODIES OF LOVE, Marin Petković Borčić

Sažetak / Summary:

Tenderness, warmth and longing permeate the verses about love (Feed me when I’m thirsty with love). There is eroticism in the background, while in the foreground we find a dialogue of love, captured through touch, encounter, glance, waiting, hoping, and light in darkness, as well as other motifs. They are the beauty and stillness of heaven.

Many poems end in versed sentences that appear as pearls of wisdom and knowledge, experience. They send a quiet, careful and gentle message about separation, illusion, making peace with oneself, but also a message of happiness, hope, hearts intertwined... When the rain makes my face cry / I know time will bring solace.

A special place in his poetic geographical archipelago is reserved for his islet. There, life is succulent and boisterous, and he paints this atmosphere using the instruments of life and the means of language. Here we find old chimneys, fishing lamps, boats, steamships, lighthouses, fishermen, fishing nets and floats, tilt hammers and pickaxes, pears, olives and bougainvillea.

The poet has a deep sense of his native land (Croatia, Fairy of Velebit) and his homeland (Dalmatia).

Bilješka o autoru / About the author:

Marin Petković Borčić was born August 15, 1999, in Split where he finished Mertojak Elementary School. He is currently in his 4th year at the I. Language High School in Split. He started writing poems in elementary school; writing poetry was always fun and a pleasure for him. He wrote more than 300 poems about love and patriotism.

His patriotic poems stem from his devotion and love for his native land - Vela Luka on the island of Korčula; for as they say, ‘without love for where you come from there is no love for the homeland.’

His hobbies include playing football, photography and reading. This is his first collection of poetry, written in standard Croatian as well as in local Split dialect.
